Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly on the phone whether same-day or next-day is realistic. If water is running where it should not, shut off the valve first, then call us instead of using the form. For true emergencies like a gas smell, call the gas company or 911 first.

California law lets independent handymen take on small jobs without a contractor license, as long as labor and materials together stay under $1,000 and no permit is needed. The state raised that limit to $1,000 in 2025. It exists exactly for the kind of work on a typical home to-do list: small repairs, mounting, adjustments and maintenance.

When the job goes over the $1,000 limit, needs a permit, or touches things like structural work, panel-level electrical or major plumbing. In that case we match you with a CSLB-licensed contractor from our vetted network instead of a handyman, and we tell you that before anyone is booked.

We vet every pro on experience, reviews and past work before they join the network, and we ask every pro about their insurance. Licensed contractors are also checked against the CSLB register. We only match you with people we would let into our own homes.

Yes. Renters just need their landlord's OK for changes to the home, so check that first for anything beyond small repairs. Landlords are welcome to send us the repair lists for their rental units. We are happy to be the one number you text when something breaks.
